Katherine Paras, M.S. is an experienced integrative mind-body psychotherapist, a licensed, registered, and board certified art therapist, a certified polarity practitioner, and a certified continuing education provider. She is experienced in working with children, aged three through adolescence, with a wide range of delays, diagnoses, and challenges. Her psychotherapy practice, for adults and children, was relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico in year 2000. For adults, please visit santafemindbodyarttherapy.com.
INTEGRATIVE MIND-BODY HEALING: In my private practice, started twenty-five years ago, I have successfully integrated art as therapy and biofield therapies in my work with individuals and groups. My focus is to help children gain mastery and confidence, pass developmental milestones, build emotional strength and flexibility, and fulfill their potentials, whatever their challenges or diagnoses. I work closely with caregivers and parents to determine which therapeutic approach and modalities are best suited for their child.
Building upon traditional Western and contemplative Eastern psychologies, I began in the mental health field as an art therapist in 1972. At that point I was already rooted in what became a lifetime commitment to artistic and spiritual investigation. This lifetime immersion in intuitive, creative processes – combined with years of training and experience in the fields of mental health, education, and energy medicine – allows me to tune into the sensitivities of a child and effectively guide sessions. Within the deeply organic and multi-faceted passages of deep healing, I focus in ways that are highly specific to the needs of your child. In my personal life, I faced what was a long-time undiagnosed, chronic illness that began in early childhood. This experience deepens my capacities to guide you and your child with compassion as you address the challenges in your child’s life.
PAST EXPERIENCE: In New York City from 1974 to 1994, I was senior art therapy consultant and supervisor for the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services, a city-wide organization. Within this agency and in other settings, I worked with children, from families of all walks of life, focused on diverse challenges such as: autism, emotional adjustments, drug and alcohol addiction in the family, visual impairments, Down’s Syndrome, mental and emotional disorders, pervasive developmental dysfunction, special educational needs, multiple handicaps and physical disability. I was a founding faculty member of New York University’s Graduate Art Therapy Program. Since then, I have taught and supervised both graduate students and professionals in various academic and other venues. These include Vermont College, Southwestern College, and annual conferences of the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine.
With forty years of experience supporting healing in others, I continue to cherish the creative process as the breath and heart of deep healing. I look forward to providing rich soils in which the roots to your child’s healing, growth, and blossoming creativity can deepen.
ENERGY MEDICINE: POST GRADUATE TRAININGS: My career in mind-body healing spans over twenty-five years, with trainings in:
